He wants legalization
The Republican candidate Newt Gingrich promised to end illegal immigration in five years if elected U.S. President legalizing the status of those who have been in the country a long time and could be facing deportation.
The candidate also proposed to include Mexico among the countries that the U.S. Southern Command oversees in the war against drug trafficking. Mexico currently depends Northern Command, based in Colorado, also in charge of Alaska and Canada.
He outlined his position during a convention of the Hispanic Leadership Network in Miami, four days before the Republican primary to be held in Florida and in which he is the second favorite, behind Mitt Romney, according to polls.
